Home improvement grants from the government are real and available to certain homeowners, but they are not all that easy to get unless you fit certain criteria. For this reason, homeowners should be skeptical about advertisements for easy government grants that anyone can qualify for as these are likely scams.

Most of the legitimate grant money goes to low income families, which typically means that the recipients cannot make more than 80% of the median income in their area. For those that fall below this threshold, the possibility of getting government home improvement grants is a lot better and they should contact local public housing agencies to find out which programs they may qualify for. Those who live in communities which have been designated for revitalization also have a higher chance of getting grants.
